After teasing us time and time and time again, Yamaha Europe has taken the wraps off its 2010 Yamaha FZ8 (and it’s cousin the 2010 Yamaha Fazer8). As was expected, the FZ8 is a 779cc naked street bike that borrows its heritage from the FZ1, and replaces the FZ6 in the European line-up.

While the FZ8 looks well and good, Yamaha has proven that a copy of a copy never carries over well. The FZ8 motor is in essence a smaller bored FZ1 motor, which is itself a de-tuned R1 powerplant. As such the Yamaha FZ8 puts out a solid 104hp, which may disappoint many riders. Torque lovers rejoice though, the 2010 Yamaha FZ8 makes an impressive 62lbs•ft of wheel turning power from its 779cc’s.

Yamaha insists the lack-luster top-end power is made up for with breakneck power lower down in the RPM range. Without riding one ourselves, we’ll have to take Yamaha’s word on that one, but considering the FZ6 puts out 96hp and 46lbs•ft of torque, we’d say the larger stroke motor is doing it’s job adequately by adding almost 50% more power to the middleweight street bike. For comparison, the FZ1 motor achieves a more similar torque figure to the FZ8, with 78lbs•ft coming out of its lump, albeit with nearly 50 more ponies under the hood.

The 2010 Yamaha FZ8 will start at €8,190 in the EU, and comes in white, blue, black color schemes. Check the photos out below, and the technical spec’s that follow them.

Introducing the 2010 R1 … Yamaha’s technical “Tour de Force.”

The MotoGP-inspired R1 is the most advanced Open-class production motorcycle.

The R1 has been designed to be the “Ultimate Cornering Master” of the open super sport class and one of the keys to incredible handling lies partly in the chassis but equally as important, in its ability to put useable power to the ground. This revolutionary cross-plane crank R1 delivers as much power as the rider wants, exactly when the rider wants it … by a simple twist of the right wrist; leaving the rider feeling like they are directly connected to the rear wheel of the new R1.

Forget everything you ever knew about the supersport liter class. The 2010 Yamaha YZF-R1 is unlike anything before. That’s because it’s the world’s first production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. The result? Incredibly smooth power delivery and outrageous torque for a rush like you’ve never experienced.

The 2010 Yamaha R1 represents a paradigm shift in technology, performance and controllability among litre class sport bikes. Inspired by Yamaha’s M1 MotoGP race bike, this latest generation R1 features a crossplane crankshaft design with an uneven firing order to provide outstanding yet easy to control torque and an exceptionally linear throttle feel never experienced before. But there is far more to the R1 than just a revolutionary engine.

Features and Benefits (USA)

Key Features:
• The YZF-R1 garnered the prestigious award as the 2009 Motorcycle of the Year from Motorcyclist Magazine. The YZF-R1 was chosen for its MotoGP®-inspired engine and chassis technology, and for its luxurious fit and finish.

• Back for 2010, the YZF-R1 is the only production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. Crossplane technology, first pioneered in MotoGP® racing with the M1, puts each piston 90° from the next, with an uneven firing interval of 270°- 180°- 90°- 180°. This uneven order does an amazing thing… it actually lets power build more smoothly. That means smooth roll-on delivery out of the corners, with outstanding tractability, followed by very strong high rpm power. It’s a feeling that’s simply unmatched, like having two engines in one: the low-rpm torquey feel of a twin with the raw, high rpm power of an inline four. This breakthrough technology on the YZF-R1 represents a paradigm shift in both technology and performance.

• This R1 keeps all the technological superiorities developed for its predecessor: YCC-T™ (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) is MotoGP® inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. YCC-I® is Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake which is a variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. The fuel injection system provides optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power and smooth throttle response.

• The R1 features Yamaha D-MODE (or drive mode) with rider-selectable throttle control maps to program YCC-T performance characteristics for riding conditions. The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. The “A” mode lets the rider enjoy sportier engine response in the low- to mid-speed range, and the “B” mode offers response that is somewhat less sharp for riding situations that require especially sensitive throttle operation. Switching maps is as easy as pushing a button on the handlebar switch.

• In keeping with this machine’s exceptional cornering ability and crisp handling, the aluminum frame has been designed to offer exceptional rigidity balance. The rear frame is lightweight Controlled-Fill die-cast magnesium, contributing the optimum mass centralization. Suspension includes SOQI front forks which use one of the tricks developed for our winning MotoGP® bikes: independent damping. The left fork handles compression damping and the right side handles the rebound damping. And the rear shock adopts bottom linkage for optimum suspension characteristics.

• The bodywork does more than add break-away-from-the-crowd styling with its more serious, less busy look. The side fairing is smooth for a sleek appearance. And, instead of the usual four-bulb headlight design, the R1 has only two projector-type bulbs mounted closer to the nose of the bike. This positions ram air ducts closer in for a more compact, smooth look. In addition, the rounded lenses are unique to the supersport industry.

Engine:
• Crossplane crankshaft technology proven in victory after victory on MotoGP® machines provides a high-tech uneven firing interval. Unlike typical inline-four engine design, where the two outer and two inner pistons move together in pairs with 180° intervals, the crossplane crankshaft has each connecting rod 90° with a unique firing order of 270° – 180° – 90° – 180°. This overcomes the inherent fluctuations in inertial torque during each engine revolution, and the accompanying peaky torque characteristics. Instead, combustion torque continues to build, giving the rider more linear throttle response with awesome power and traction out of the corners.

• To maximize rider comfort as well as power output, the engine adopts a coupling-type balancer that rotates in the opposite direction as the crankshaft.

• This engine features forged aluminum pistons to take maximum advantage of the power characteristics. Titanium intake valves are lightweight.

• A forced-air intake system is adopted to increase intake efficiency by using the natural airflow during riding to pressurize the air in the air box. This contributes to outstanding power delivery characteristics in the high-speed range, while the design also helps to minimize intake noise.

• Slipper-type back torque-limiting clutch greatly facilitates braking/downshifting from high speed.

• The exhaust system is meticulously designed to enhance engine output while, thanks to its three-way catalyst technology, also reducing exhaust emissions. The silencer is a single expansion type, and the sound coming through from the unique crossplane crankshaft-equipped engine is unlike any other inline-four cylinder production supersport.

• This fuel-injected engine takes full advantage of YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle), the MotoGP®-inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. There’s also YCC-I, Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake, the variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. Fuel injectors have 12 holes for optimum fuel atomization that translates to the most power from every fuel charge.

• Have it your way, thanks to Yamaha D-MODE (or “Drive Mode”) variable throttle control. There are three modes that control how YCC-T responds to throttle input from the rider. The selectable “A” mode puts more emphasis on engine response in low to midrange rpm. “B” mode, on the other hand, provides less sharp response to input for riding situations that require especially sensitive throttle operation. The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. Selecting the map you want is as easy as pressing a button on the handlebars.

Chassis/Suspension:
• The frame has a combination of uncompromising rigidity where needed along with carefully achieved flex for the precise rigidity balance this bike needs to give the rider the full benefit of its handling and engine characteristics. It is a sophisticated combination of Controlled-Fill die-cast, stamping, and gravity casting… the exact technology needed for each portion of this advanced frame.

• SOQI front forks take a page from the championship-winning design of our MotoGP® weapon, the M1. Since both forks always move together, compression damping duties can be confined to the left fork, while rebound damping is precisely handled by the right fork, reducing oil cavitation.

• The SOQI rear shock features both high and low speed compression damping plus an easy-to-use screw hydraulic adjustment for preload. This unit also adopts a pillow-ball-type joint for exceptional shock absorption, road hold feeling, and damper response. To achieve maximum performance, a bottom linkage is used to work with the rest of the chassis refinements for brilliant, crisp handling characteristics.

• Factory racers get machines tailored to their preferences. Welcome to the club. R1 has adjustable footrests, with a 15mm height and 3mm front-to-rear adjustment.

• The press-formed fuel tank has a shape developed using 3-D simulation analysis technology. The elongated shape of the tank allows it to fit neatly within the frame in a way that promotes concentration of mass.

Key Features
• The Roadliner S gets chrome switchgear, front brake and clutch master cylinders and levers, belt guard, fork and fork covers, handlebar clamps, shifter, front pulley cover, various engine covers, rear fender stay and polished wheels.

• The flagship of the Star line, and Cycle World magazine’s Best Cruiser for 2006 (CW’s 10 Best, July `06) is designed to show and go like no other cruiser before it, with big power and great handling.

• Powerful and beautiful 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod V-twin produces great thrust at any speed.

• Twin-bore downdraft electronic fuel injection ensures optimum engine efficiency and throttle response in the widest possible range of conditions.

• Neo-streamline design, gives the Roadliner S a completely distinctive look.

• Long and low aluminum frame provides great looks and light handling unlike any other full-size cruiser, thanks to a low center of gravity feel and a near 50/50 weight distribution on the front and rear wheels.

• A sculpted seat makes the Roadliner S an excellent place to sit on long rides.

• The Roadliner S achieves fuel economy up to an estimated 42 mpg** with a fuel tank that holds 4.5 gallons of gas.

Engine
• 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled pushrod 48-degree V-twin has massive looks and performance.

• Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture.

• Plated cylinders and forged pistons cooled by oil jets provide outstanding reliability and long life. Twin counterbalancers keep things smooth but rumbly.

• 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board.

• Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel-injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; a wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization.

• Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP) inside the two-into-one exhaust system boosts torque in the 2500-3000 rpm range.

• Special custom machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

• 3300 rpm at 75 mph gives some idea of the Roadliner’s power and cruisability. Maximum torque is reached at only 2500 rpm.

Chassis/Suspension
• Aluminum frame is light, rigid, and requires few welds. A light, Controlled-Fill swingarm casting complements the bike’s streamline style.

• With 49.6 percent of its weight carried on the front wheel, the Roadliner S has the weight distribution of a sportbike instead of the typical cruiser, and that means great handling.

• 46mm fork tubes wearing slant-cut stainless covers serve up an excellent ride and a sweet appearance.

• A tucked-out-of-sight single shock with adjustable spring preload out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads.

• A thick, richly chromed 1.25-inch handlebar in polished clamps carries the Roadliner’s switchgear wiring on the inside.

• Flangeless, teardrop fuel tank carries a full 4.5 gallons of fuel.

• 12-spoke wheels evoke a thick spoke look, but carry modern tubeless radial tires; a 130/70-18 front and a fat 190/60-17 rear.

• Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power and feel.

• Strong and light belt final drive routes power smoothly and efficiently to the rear wheel.

• Floating floorboards and an adjustable heel/toe shifter help provide a comfortable, low-effort ride.

Additional Features
• A sculpted seat makes the Roadliner S an excellent place to sit on long rides.

• Position beams within the main headlight housing provide great visibility.

• Left-thumb operated high-beam switch, and right-thumb activated accessory driving light switch for great visibility.

• Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Roadliner S.

• Classic clock-style instrumentation complements Roadliner S’s neo-retro look and contains analog speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters, odometer and self-diagnostics.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.

• Oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst reduce emissions.

You are looking at a new generation of custom cruisers. A breed that stands apart. Check out the incredible attention to detail. From front to back, the 2010 Raider S is loaded with “custom” inspired parts. Stretched out fork, fat rear tire, low seat and an aggressive, slammed riding position. The 2010 Yamaha Raider S not only looks good… it offers an incredible riding experience too.

Style. Performance. Attitude. You might as well have it all.

If you want totally custom but would rather ride than wrench, have a look at the 2010 Yamaha Star Raider S. And the rest of the chopper-inspired Riader S is pure Star, designed and engineered by the world’s best bike builders. 2010 Raider S adds chrome accents.

When the engineers at Yamaha set out to produce a true custom machine, the easy part was the styling and attention to detail.

The trick was to combine “chopper” inspired styling with a chassis that would offer superior handling. The engineers at Yamaha were not willing to compromise. The Raider S had to deliver great handling and excellent ride quality. Discover the superior quality, styling and all round performance of the Raider S.

Key Features
• “S” model gets even more chrome: chrome triple clamps, fork sliders, air box cover, engine covers, headlight housing, handlebar risers, etc.

• The Raider S was inspired by the custom chopper movement, but since it’s a Star, it had to also handle, stop and go.

• The Star line offers the most diverse line of custom V-twins on the planet.

Engine
• 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, OHV with 4 valves per cylinder, pushrod 48-degree V-twin pumps out max torque at just 2500 rpm and max power at 4500 rpm for powerful, relaxed cruising.

• Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture.

• Ceramic-composite plated cylinders for superior heat dissipation with forged pistons cooled by oil jets. Provides outstanding reliability and longer engine life.

• 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board.

• Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization.

• A 3.5-liter airbox is hidden in the area behind the fuel tank for great performance and clean styling.

• Two-into-one-into-two exhaust with Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP®) inside boosts torque in the 2500-3500-rpm range.

• Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

Chassis/Suspension
• All-aluminum cast frame is lightweight, rigid and tuned for light, athletic handling. A light, Controlled-Fill, aluminum swingarm casting complements the bike’s lithe style.

• Low, sculpted seat holds the rider in place, and pullback bars reach back to enforce a casual, urban cruising style.

• A 6-degree yoke angle—the first ever on a street-legal Star Motorcycle—makes it possible to achieve that custom look as well as neutral handling and straight-line cruisability: 33-degree rake plus 6 degrees yoke angle gives total rake of 39 degrees and 102mm of trail.

• Custom 5-spoke wheels carry a 120/70-21-inch bias tire up front, and a wide, 210/40-18 radial out back—the tallest and widest ever on a Star.

• 46mm fork tubes serve a sweet appearance and an excellent ride through 5.1 inches of wheel travel.

• A tucked-out-of-sight single shock with adjustable spring preload out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads.

• Flangeless fuel tank carries a full 4.1 gallons of fuel.

• Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power and feel, with a 310mm disc out back.

• Strong, light and narrow belt final drive contains embedded carbon fiber for even greater strength.

• Wiring harness uses super-slim wires for compactness, are lighter weight and switchgear wiring is routed inside the handlebar for a clean appearance.

Additional Features
• Left-thumb operated high-beam switch, and right-thumb activated accessory driving light switch for great visibility.

• Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Raider S.

• Cool, tank-mounted instrumentation complements the custom look, and contains analog speedometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters, odometer and self-diagnostics.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.

• Oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst reduce emissions.

Key Features
• The Stratoliner S gets chrome switchgear, front brake and clutch master cylinders and levers, belt guard, fork and fork covers, handlebar clamps, shifter, front pulley cover, various engine covers, rear fender stay and polished wheels.

• A pair of streamlined leather-covered, locking, hard sidebags, an adjustable, quick-detachable windshield and a quick-detachable passenger backrest make the Stratoliner S excellent for long hauls and short trips.

• Powerful and beautiful 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod V-twin produces great thrust at any speed.

• Twin-bore downdraft electronic fuel injection ensures optimum engine efficiency and throttle response in the widest possible range of conditions.

• Neo-streamline design, gives the Stratoliner S a completely distinctive look.

• Long and low aluminum frame provides great looks and light handling unlike any other full-size cruiser, thanks to near 50/50 weight distribution on the front and rear wheels.

• A sculpted seat makes the Stratoliner S an excellent place to sit on long rides.

Engine
• 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod 48-degree V-twin has massive looks and performance.

• Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture.

• Ceramic-composite plated cylinders for superior heat dissipation with forged pistons cooled by oil jets. Provides outstanding reliability and longer engine life.

• 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board.

• Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization.

• Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP) inside the two-into-one exhaust system boosts torque in the 2500-3000 rpm range.

• Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

• 3300 rpm at 75 mph gives some idea of a Stratoliner’s power and cruisability. Maximum torque is reached at only 2500 rpm.

Chassis/Suspension
• Aluminum frame is light, rigid and requires few welds for a smooth, clean look. A light, Controlled-Fill swingarm casting complements the bike’s streamline style.

• With 49.6 percent of its weight carried on the front wheel, the Stratoliner has the weight distribution of a sportbike instead of the typical cruiser, and that means great handling.

• 46mm fork tubes wearing slant-cut stainless covers serve up an excellent ride and a sweet appearance.

• A tucked-out-of-sight single shock with adjustable spring preload out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads.

• A thick, richly chromed 1.25-inch handlebar in polished clamps carries the Stratoliner S’s switchgear wiring on the inside.

• Flangeless, teardrop fuel tank carries a full 4.5 gallons of fuel.

• Polished, 12-spoke wheels evoke a thick spoke look, but carry modern tubeless radial tires; a 130/70-18 front and a fat, 190/60-17 rear for excellent grip.

• Chrome front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power, feel, and great style.

• Strong-and-light belt final drive routes power smoothly and efficiently to the rear wheel.

• Floating floorboards and an adjustable heel/toe shifter help provide a comfortable, low-effort ride.

Additional Features
• A sculpted seat makes the Stratoliner S an excellent place to sit on long rides. Improves long range comfort.

• Position beams within the main headlight housing provide great visibility.

• Left-thumb operated high-beam switch, and right-thumb activated accessory driving light switch for great visibility.

• Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Stratoliner S.

• Classic clock-style instrumentation complements Stratoliner S’s neo-retro look and contains analog speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters and odometer.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.

• Leather-covered, locking, hard sidebags, a quick-removable windshield that locks into place and a locking, quick-detachable passenger backrest provide security.

• Oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst reduce emissions.

• Sidebags detach easily for cleaning.

Key Features
• The V Star 1300 Tourer comes standard with hard leather-wrapped sidebags, passenger backrest and windshield. The touring package is designed from the factory so it’s styled consistently with the bike’s fluid lines.

• The midsize V Star 1300 Tourer brings modern classic styling along for a lighter, sportier, hot-rodinspired ride.

• 80-cubic-inch (1304cc) liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-twin produces excellent power across the board along with a highly stimulating exhaust note

• Modern-classic design, including a flangeless gas tank and two-into-one exhaust, gives the V Star 1300 that distinctive Star look.

• Steel chassis gets 48 percent of the bike’s weight on the front tire, for quick, light handling and maneuverability.

• Authentic cruiser features such as belt drive, steel fenders and fuel tank, open up the customization possibilities even further.

New for 2010
• The handlebar bend is changed, bringing the bars closer to the rider for a more relaxed riding position.

• The shape of the seat has been redesigned with a “dish” shape for improved comfort, and it allows riders to touch the ground easily.

• A new 3-D tank emblem design adorns the V Star 1300 Tourer and evokes a modern-classic look.

• The V Star 1300 Tourer gets even more chrome: a new chrome headlight housing and chrome belt guard. Plus, there’s a new gloss black finish on the frame that adds a high-quality look.

Engine
• The 1304cc (80 cubic inches), 60-degree, SOHC, V-twin engine delivers smooth power to the ground, while maintaining the classic big cruiser sound and pulse characteristics.

• Fuel injected—each cylinder is fed by its own injector spraying into twin 36mm intake valves, while the twin bore design allows the computer-controlled system to feed a precise amount of fuel/air mixture to the engine. The result is strong, smooth and seamless performance across the full range of engine rpm.

• Four valves per cylinder (36mm intake, 32mm exhaust) provide optimum combustion efficiency; roller rocker arms reduce friction for better performance and reduced wear.

• Ceramic composite cylinder sleeves contain 100mm forged pistons for excellent durability and longevity.

• 9.5:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing produce plenty of power across the board and a distinctive exhaust note.

• Forged connecting rods ride a single crankpin for true V-twin sound and power.

• Sly cooling system routes liquid through hidden hoses and internal engine passages for air-cooled looks and liquid-cooled performance. Oil filter is easy to get to but also tucked nearly out of sight for clean, pure looks.

• The belt drive transfers power from the transmission to the wheel with authority. The belt system is virtually maintenance free and delivers a quicker, more impressive throttle response feeling than ashaft drive.

• The classic cylinder fin styling of an air-cooled engine with the consistent potency of a liquid-cooled power plant. With the radiator set back between the down tubes discretely routed plumbing, the V Star 1300 Tourer’s classic beauty shines through.

• Hydraulic cam chain tensioner reduces noise and maintenance.

Chassis/Suspension
• Built on a double cradle steel frame, giving the bike a rigid base for nimble handling, while allowing enough frame flex to be comfortable on the open road.

• The swingarm looks sweet and gives the bike its great handling character. Mated with belt guards, the swingarm’s sleek design is intergrated into the overall styling of the whole bike. This allows excellent road bump absorption for all-day comfort on the great wide open.

• 41mm fork tubes with stainless covers look great and serve up a smooth, controlled ride.

• A thick, chromed handlebar rides in painted clamps for a custom look.

• The fuel tank is sculpted low and sleek for style and comfort, with a flush-fitting, aeronautical-style gas cap incorporated into the tank’s sleek, flangeless-type design. The tank holds a generous 4.9 gallons of fuel, thanks to a remotely located sub tank that also houses the fuel pump, for plenty of traveling range on the open road.

• Seven-spoke cast wheels and matching rear pulley mount fat, 16-inch tires for a cool period look albeit with big contact patches on the road.

• Dual 298mm front and single rear disc brakes. Provides consistent and predictable stopping power for driving in traffic or out on the open highway.

Additional Features
• Star quality paint, chrome and detailing vie for attention wherever you look; fenders are steel not plastic.

• Retro-modern bar-mounted instrumentation contains analog speedometer along with LCD display; indicator lights for high beam, turn signal, low oil level, low fuel, coolant temperature, neutral—and engine diagnostic function.

• Floating floorboards and an adjustable heel/toe shifter provide a comfortable, low-effort ride and makes moving through the 5-speed gearbox a snap.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.

• Oxygen sensor and catalyst reduce emissions.

Key Features
• The V Star 950 won the prestigious “Metric of the Year” award in 2009 from V-Twin® Magazine.

• V Star 950 is the benchmark in the middleweight cruiser class, appealing to seasoned riders as well as those looking for a friendly entry-level cruiser. The air-cooled V-twin delivers plenty of distinctive, big-cruiser character and pulsing torque feel. Seat height is an extra-low 26.5 inches. The full-sized chassis has a long, low look and provides spacious comfort. Handling is sporty and responsive, great for curvy back roads and commuting around town as well as open-highway cruising.

• The 942cc 60° V-twin engine is both simple and sophisticated. Sure, there’s no-fuss air cooling for traditional looks. But inside you’ll find the reason for the surprisingly spirited performance: four-valve cylinder heads, ceramic-composite-lined cylinders, forged aluminum pistons, and fuel injection. The meticulously tuned 2-into-1 exhaust system has a throaty exhaust note, and also 3-way catalyst technology to reduce air pollution.

• The carefully designed chassis contributes to an exceptionally light feeling riders are sure to appreciate. The double-cradle steel main frame offers an ideal rigidity balance in the longitudinal, lateral, and torsional directions, using the engine as a stressed member. With the engine mounting position slightly forward for optimum front-rear weight distribution and its large, 18-inch front wheel, V Star 950 has outstanding handling performance.

• We call the V Star 950’s streamlined styling “New Style Classic.” Designers used the influence of a single, horizontal line along the entire body, almost as if the wind has sculpted the machine. The long, low look is accentuated by the headlight and low-profile fuel tank, and the openness around the engine and front wheel highlight the bike’s light appearance.

Engine
• The 57.5 cubic inch (942 cc) engine is an air-cooled SOHC 60° V twin. With four valves per cylinder, a pent-roof shaped combustion chamber, and 9.0:1 compression ratio, this engine has been carefully designed to produce excellent power characteristics – and best-in-class acceleration.

• To keep friction loss to a minimum and help the engine achieve the ideal performance characteristics, special compact roller-type rocker arms with needle bearings are used. These also reduce top-end wieght for excellent mass centralization.

• The combustion chamber shape was precisely engineered to direct the fuel air charge into the center of the piston for faster combustion and maximum power. Ceramic-composite plated cylinders provide excellent heat dissipation and reduced oil consumption.

• High-quality forged aluminum pistons have a lightweight, high strength compact design that contributes to reduce vibration.

• The designers realized that the engine’s V twin character was so pleasing on its own that a counterbalancer was unnecessary. This also contributes to simplicity and less operating noise.

• Sophisticated fuel injection is used on the V Star 950. The injectors are four-hole, two-directional types with spray aimed at the valve surfaces. That produces good fuel atomization for faster and more complete combustion which contributes to excellent drivability. The fuel injection system also adopts an ISC (Idling Speed Control) valve for outstanding idling stability.

• Lubrication is provided by a simple, reliable wet sump system.

• The 5-speed transmission is all new, with a smooth shifting feeling, and gear ratios spaced to let the rider take full advantage of the engine’s torque characteristics and enjoy comfortable cruising at highway speeds. Naturally, power is efficiently transferred to the rear wheel using simple, quiet belt drive.

• The engine’s look is highly detailed, with polished cylinder fins and beautifully chrome-plated cylinder head covers, for an exceptional appearance sure to be noticed.

• The V Star 950 achieves fuel economy up to an estimated 47 mpg* with a fuel tank that holds 4.4 gallons of gas.

Chassis/Suspension
• The steel double-cradle frame is long and low, contributing to the bike’s spacious 95.9-inch (2435mm) overall length and 66.3-inch wheelbase. That means a great ride to go along with the great looks.

• The seat height a mere 26.5 inches off the pavement, one of the lowest around, and a fuel tank that’s made as narrow as possible where it meets the seat, it is easy for most riders to put both feet firmly on the ground.

• Fenders are real steel, front and rear. That adds to the quality look and feel, and makes customization easier.

• The big 18-inch front wheel helps deliver this cruiser motorcycle’s sporty handling characteristics and “Sport Classic” cruiser looks. The low-profile 130/70-18 tire is mounted on an 8-spoke lightweight aluminum wheel. The 170/70-16 bias ply rear tire adds a beefy look and helps transfer all that torque and power to the pavement.

• Large 320mm front and 298mm rear discs provide strong braking capacity with excellent feel.

• Front forks feature big 41mm tubes, and rear suspension is a bottom-link-type monocross shock. Settings are calibrated to deliver a plush ride that is increasingly firm as the suspension is compressed for good handling and comfort over bigger bumps in the road.

• The V Star 950 has a wonderfully light feel. Surprisingly, even though it has a full-size chassis, the bike weighs just 612 pounds wet, with a full tank of gas and all fluids.

Additional Features
• The large-diameter meter is mounted on the fuel tank for a traditional look. Meter functions include speedometer, fuel level warning light, oil level warning light, and odometer with two trip meter functions, fuel trip meter, and clock display. The LCD display illumination can be adjusted using a right side handlebar switch.
