Here’s another look at the 2010 Yamaha Fazer range. The new Yamaha YS 250 Fazer replaces the YBR250 and joins the larger models in the Fazer line-up. It has a new look in keeping with the latest naked models from Yamaha, and will be released first in Brazil, to be then released in Europe late this year on a selective basis.

The YS 250 Fazer has new, redesigned rear suspension and new instrumentation with LCD feature on the handlebars. The exhaust has also received an overhaul and it gets new graphics, but it’s still recognisable as coming from YBR stock. The price for the Brazilian market should be somewhere around the equivalent of 4,000 euros.

When a young Kenny Roberts first ventured to Europe in 1978 to ride in the 500cc World Championship, no one was expecting him to be a title contender. But he was armed with the brutal Yamaha YZR500 OW35K, and created history by winning the 500 cc crown at his first attempt. He became the first American to take the title, despite having never ridden the European circuits before.

Part of this is obviously due to his machinery. The original OW35 appeared in 1977; it was Yamaha’s first new 500cc factory racer since the OW23 of 1975, which Giacomo Agostini rode to World Championship glory. For Roberts’ title attack in 1978 the factory chose to evolve the OW35, chiefly by adding an aluminum swingarm and the ‘Yamaha Power Valve System’. (By running an oval shaped valve, the YPVS altered the size of the exhaust port at different revs—effectively changing the power delivery and producing optimal power and torque across the entire rev range.)

Even in Roberts’ hands, and despite the YPVS, this Yamaha was a handful. The two stroke, water-cooled inline four punched out an arm-snapping 120hp, and revved like a bastard all the way up to 10,500rpm. And despite weighing a mere 135 kg, it still needed two front discs to slow it down from a 290kph+ top speed.

The 1978 title fight went down to the wire in the end, with Roberts’ third place at the Nürburgring finale proving enough to beat Pommy superstar Barry Sheene to the title by ten points. The rest is history: Roberts famously won the Championship again in 1979 and 1980, giving him three consecutive 500cc World Championships to his name.

The new bike was due to be officially unveiled in the summer as a replacement for the FZ6 Fazer, had until now only been partially revealed with two teaser shots released by Yamaha of just the nose.

Yamaha’s plan was to spend another month or so releasing more images but MCN was able to get hold of images before that. As a response Yamaha has released this single official image of the naked FZ8.

The new FZ8 is based very closely on the FZ1, its 1000cc big brother. Like that bike both half-faired (Fazer) and naked (FZ8) versions will be available. The motor is believed to be a sleeved-down version of the FZ1 engine and to produce around 120bhp compared to the FZ1’s 150.

Key Features
• Fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, four-valve-per-cylinder engine boasts forged pistons, carburized connecting rods, and ceramic-composite plated cylinders. The TMAX has a 11.0:1 compression ratio; upswept muffler canister; Controlled-fill die-cast aluminum frame; 43mm front forks; 4-piston mono-block caliper dual front disc brakes; rear disc brake; aluminum die cast wheels with radial H-rated tires; fully featured multifunction instrumentation with speedometer and tachometer; and radical new sports styling; with those credentials, it’s no wonder TMAX is the Super Sport Scooter.

• Horizontally positioned 499cc parallel twin, with reciprocating balancer, offers plenty of smooth power, enough for two-up touring at highway speeds. Configuration helps keep weight low in frame for mass centralization.

• Luxury scooter appointments include a double glove box in the streamlined front apron, a positionadjustable operator backrest, a storage box under the seat spacious enough for a large full-face helmet, and the excellent wind and weather protection that comes from the TMAX’s floorboard/apron/windshield configuration.

• Continuously variable transmission connects engine power to the wet multiplate centrifugal clutch via a durable double-cog-type rubber V-belt. Silent chain efficiently transfers power to the rear wheel. This proven system, combined with TMAX’s ample power, gives a whole new meaning—and adrenaline level—to twist-and-go throttle operation.

• The TMAX achieves fuel economy up to an estimated 47 mpg* with a fuel tank that holds 4 gallons of gas.

Engine
• Fuel-injected, DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder, 499cc parallel twin, liquid-cooled engine is horizontally mounted and performance engineered with forged pistons, carburized connecting rods and ceramic-composite plated cylinders for plenty of tractable power. Also includes a horizontally opposed reciprocating balancer for uncommon smoothness.

• Electronic fuel-injection system provides sure starts and excellent performance in virtually all conditions and altitudes.

• Lubrication is via a semi-dry-sump system with an oil cooler for longer engine life.

• Continuously variable transmission (CVT) connects engine power to the wet multiplate centrifugal clutch via a durable double cog-type rubber V-belt. Pivot coaxial drive shaft is used, allowing use of a swingarm separate from the powerplant for excellent handling. Two-stage, adjustment-free silent chain system then transfers power to the rear wheel.

• Muffler incorporates exhaust catalyst technology to reduce air pollution.

• Fuel tank emission system includes a charcoal canister to control gasoline evaporation and reduce air pollution.

Chassis/Suspension
• Using technology proven in Yamaha’s sportbike line, TMAX has a lightweight, Controlled-Fill die-cast aluminum frame that provides rigidity and balance for superb handling.

• Motorcycle-type telescopic front forks use beefy 43mm tubes.

• 15-inch cast aluminum wheels front and rear are fitted with radial tires for excellent, sporty handling.

• Front double disc brakes with four-pod mono block calipers.

• Pin-slide, single piston rear brake caliper with parking brake system.

• Brake lever is adjustable for operator comfort.

• Rear seat is hinged for easy opening. Underseat storage is spacious enough to store a large full-face helmet.

Additional Features
• Bright headlights and taillight take their styling cues from Yamaha sportbikes.

According to the latest figures released by the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI), although overall sales in the UK still following a downtrend, the naked bike sector has consolidated its growth during the month of November, recording a one per cent increase in new registrations in the year to date, compared to the same period in 2008.

The biggest-selling bike in November was the Yamaha YBR 125, with 156 registrations. Yamaha was the biggest-selling manufacturer with 1,027 new registrations, followed by Honda (678) and Piaggio (372).

“Although the economic climate continues to present challenges to the motorcycle industry, the industry is responding with determination and perseverance,” said MCI chief executive Steve Kenward in a release.

“The Carole Nash International Motorcycle Show, which ended two days ago, showcased new models and the latest products to over 110,000 visitors. The Get On experience unit made its debut at the NEC as part of the industry-funded campaign to bring biking to new audiences by giving potential riders the opportunity to have a free ride in their local area. Around 80 per cent of those who try their free ride are going forward to take their CBT,” Kenward added.

“The MCI is working hard to encourage new people to recognise the benefits of individual mobility that a powered two-wheeler affords, and to persuade the Government that motorcycles and scooters are part of the solution to the transportation, congestion and environmental issues that face the country.”

“However, these are tough economic times and we continue to lobby Government to create a level playing field across the entire automotive sector on the issue of the Scrappage scheme and other business incentives. MCI calls on Ministers, particularly the Innovation and Skills Minister, Lord Mandelson, to engage positively with industry,” concluded Kenward.

The 2010 Yamaha Road Star S features a fuel injected V-Twin with muscle to burn and plenty of chrome. It’s as easy on the eyes as it is easy to ride. Another winner in the legendary Yamaha Star series.

Fuel Injected knockout.

The Yamaha 2010 Road Star is one of the biggest, baddest air cooled V-Twins in the business. It looks good, due mostly to the classic appeal of that hardtail-looking streel frame and all the classic looking hardware that goes with it. The 2010 Road Star S gets chrome accents to the front end including chrome switchgear, front brake master cylinder, front fork and levers.

Though it’s available in a metallic black lacquer – this Star is sure to light up the road with its radiant good looks and brilliant chrome.
Gleaming chrome, a retro seat and loads of torquey muscle will have you itching to ride. Swing a leg over, fire up the massive fuel injected V-twin engine, and then settle in for a nice long ride.

You are looking at a new generation of custom cruisers. A breed that stands apart. Check out the incredible attention to detail. From front to back, the 2010 Raider is loaded with “custom” inspired parts. Stretched out fork, fat rear tire, low seat and an aggressive, slammed riding position. The Raider features more black parts than the S version. The 2010 Yamaha Raider S not only looks good… it offers an incredible riding experience too.

Style. Performance. Attitude. You might as well have it all.

If you want totally custom but would rather ride than wrench, have a look at the 2010 Yamaha Star Raider. The 113 cubic inch fuel injected V-Twin engine that power it takes a back seat to no V-Twin when it comes to power and reliability. And the rest of the chopper-inspired Riader S is pure Star, designed and engineered by the world’s best bike builders.

When the engineers at Yamaha set out to produce a true custom machine, the easy part was the styling and attention to detail.

The trick was to combine “chopper inspired” styling with a chassis that would offer superior handling. The engineers at Yamaha were not willing to compromise. The Raider had to deliver great handling and excellent ride quality. Discover the eye catching blacked out details, styling and the all round performance of the Raider.

Key Features
• The Raider was inspired by the custom chopper movement, but since it’s a Star, it had to also handle, stop and go.
Engine
• 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, OHV with 4 valves per cylinder, pushrod 48-degree V-twin pumps out max torque at just 2500 rpm and max power at 4500 rpm for powerful, relaxed cruising.

• Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture.

• Ceramic-composite plated cylinders for superior heat dissipation with forged pistons cooled by oil jets. Provides outstanding reliability and longer engine life.

• 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board.

• Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization.

• A 3.5-liter airbox is hidden in the area below the fuel tank for great performance and clean styling.

• Two-into-one-into-two exhaust with Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP®) inside boosts torque in the 2500-3500-rpm range.

• Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

Chassis/Suspension
• All-aluminum cast frame is light, rigid and tuned for light, athletic handling. A light, Controlled-Fill, aluminum swingarm casting complements the bike’s lithe style.

• Low, sculpted seat holds the rider in place, and pullback bars reach back to enforce a casual, urban cruising style.

• A 6-degree yoke angle—the first ever on a street-legal Star Motorcycle—makes it possible to achieve that custom look as well as neutral handling and straight-line cruisability: 33-degree rake plus 6 degrees yoke angle gives total rake of 39 degrees and 102mm of trail.

• Custom 5-spoke wheels carry a 120/70-21-inch bias tire up front, and a wide, 210/40-18 radial out back—the tallest and widest ever on a Star.

• 46mm fork tubes serve up an excellent ride and a sweet appearance through 5.1 inches of wheel travel.

• A tucked-out-of-sight single shock out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads.

• Flangeless fuel tank carries a full 4.1 gallons of fuel.

• Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power and feel, with a 310mm disc out back.

• Strong, light and narrow belt final drive contains embedded carbon fiber for even greater strength.

• Wiring harness uses super-slim wires for compactness and lighter weight, and switchgear wiring is routed inside the handlebar for a clean appearance.

Additional Features
• Left-thumb operated high-beam switch, and right-thumb activated accessory driving light switch for great visibility.

• Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Raider.

• Cool, tank-mounted instrumentation complements the custom look, and contains analog speedometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters, odometer and self-diagnostics.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.

• Oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst reduce emissions.

Key Features: All new for 2010
• The Stratoliner Deluxe comes standard with a fairing that includes integrated speakers and an iPod® jack, plus a convenient, handlebar-mounted audio control system.

• A pair of large, color-matched, locking hard sidebags make the Stratoliner Deluxe excellent for long hauls and short trips, and offer even more capacity than the Stratoliner sidebags.

• Powerful and beautiful 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod V-twin produces great thrust at any speed.

• Twin-bore downdraft electronic fuel injection ensures optimum engine efficiency and throttle response in the widest possible range of conditions.

• Neo-streamline design gives the Stratoliner Deluxe a completely distinctive look and the fairing offers excellent weather protection.

• Long and low aluminum frame provides great looks and light handling unlike any other full-size cruiser.

• A sculpted seat makes the Stratoliner Deluxe an excellent place to sit on long rides.

• The Star® Accessories Catalog is packed full of high-quality parts that invite Star owners to fully express their individuality.

Engine
• 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod 48-degree V-twin has massive looks and performance.

• Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder. Provide optimum combustion efficiency.

• Ceramic-composite plated cylinders for superior heat dissipation with forged pistons cooled by oil jets. Provides outstanding reliability and longer engine life.

• 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board.

• Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization.

• Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP®) inside the two-into-one exhaust system boosts torque in the 2500-3000-rpm range.

• Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

• 3300 rpm at 75 mph gives some idea of the Stratoliner Deluxe’s power and cruisability. Maximum torque is reached at only 2500 rpm.

Chassis/Suspension
• Aluminum frame is light, rigid, and requires few welds for a smooth, clean look. A light, Controlled-Fill swingarm casting complements the bike’s streamline style and reduces unsprung weight for great handling.

• 46mm fork tubes serve up an excellent ride and a sweet appearance.

• A tucked-out-of-sight single shock with adjustable spring preload out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads.

• A thick, richly chromed 1.25-inch handlebar in chrome clamps carries the Stratoliner Deluxe’s switchgear wiring on the inside.

• Flangeless, teardrop fuel tank carries a full 4.5 gallons of fuel.

• Polished, 12-spoke wheels evoke a thick spoke look, but carry modern tubeless radial tires; a 130/70-18 front and a fat, 190/60-17 rear for excellent grip.

• Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power, feel, and great style.

• Strong-and-light belt final drive routes power smoothly and efficiently to the rear wheel.

• Floating floorboards and an adjustable heel/toe shifter help provide a comfortable, low-effort ride.

Additional Features
• Neo-streamline design gives the Stratoliner Deluxe a completely distinctive look and the fairing offers excellent weather protection.

• A sculpted seat makes the Stratoliner Deluxe an excellent place to sit on long rides. Improves long range comfort.

• Position beams within the main headlight housing provide great visibility.

• Left-thumb high-beam switch, and right-thumb switch for activating optional accessory driving lights, offer ease of operation.

• Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Stratoliner Deluxe.

• Classic clock-style instrumentation complement Stratoliner Deluxe’s neo-retro look and contains analog speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters and odometer.

• Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look.
