After teasing us time and time and time again, Yamaha Europe has taken the wraps off its 2010 Yamaha FZ8 (and it’s cousin the 2010 Yamaha Fazer8). As was expected, the FZ8 is a 779cc naked street bike that borrows its heritage from the FZ1, and replaces the FZ6 in the European line-up.

While the FZ8 looks well and good, Yamaha has proven that a copy of a copy never carries over well. The FZ8 motor is in essence a smaller bored FZ1 motor, which is itself a de-tuned R1 powerplant. As such the Yamaha FZ8 puts out a solid 104hp, which may disappoint many riders. Torque lovers rejoice though, the 2010 Yamaha FZ8 makes an impressive 62lbs•ft of wheel turning power from its 779cc’s.

Yamaha insists the lack-luster top-end power is made up for with breakneck power lower down in the RPM range. Without riding one ourselves, we’ll have to take Yamaha’s word on that one, but considering the FZ6 puts out 96hp and 46lbs•ft of torque, we’d say the larger stroke motor is doing it’s job adequately by adding almost 50% more power to the middleweight street bike. For comparison, the FZ1 motor achieves a more similar torque figure to the FZ8, with 78lbs•ft coming out of its lump, albeit with nearly 50 more ponies under the hood.

The 2010 Yamaha FZ8 will start at €8,190 in the EU, and comes in white, blue, black color schemes. Check the photos out below, and the technical spec’s that follow them.

Last year, Japanese manufacturer Yamaha experienced a 28.1 percent drop in revenues. According to officials at Yamaha, the economic slump brought a decrease in sales of motorcycles and marine products both in the home market and overseas in 2009. All these made the Japanese manufacturer consider cost-cutting and reorganization.

Yamaha will eliminate 200 positions in the United States and Europe this year in addition to 800 layoffs by the end of October announced earlier this month. Yamaha will also shut two plants overseas this year and five in Japan by 2012.

Although the company is considered the second largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, Yamaha suffered a net loss of $2.4 billion dollars.

“The company is expanding the scope of three structural reforms, reorganizing the manufacturing layout, the workforce and reducing costs beyond the level envisioned in the previous announcement,” Yamaha said referring to the cost-cutting moves.

Through these moves it is hoped the company will return to profit, with sales likely rising 8.4 percent to $13.9 billion, returning Yamaha to an operating profit. The company expects global motorcycle sales will rise 12 percent to 6.55 million units and sales in Asia excluding Japan will increase 14 percent to 5.69 million units.

The motorcycle market in other parts of the world are another matter with sales in North America alone expected to fall 39 percent to 56,000 units. “Demand in Europe and the United States is not expected to recover for some time,” noted the Yamaha officials. “Thus, sales conditions surrounding the Yamaha Motor Group are expected to remain harsh.”

The new bike was due to be officially unveiled in the summer as a replacement for the FZ6 Fazer, had until now only been partially revealed with two teaser shots released by Yamaha of just the nose.

Yamaha’s plan was to spend another month or so releasing more images but MCN was able to get hold of images before that. As a response Yamaha has released this single official image of the naked FZ8.

The new FZ8 is based very closely on the FZ1, its 1000cc big brother. Like that bike both half-faired (Fazer) and naked (FZ8) versions will be available. The motor is believed to be a sleeved-down version of the FZ1 engine and to produce around 120bhp compared to the FZ1’s 150.

The 2010 Yamaha Road Star S features a fuel injected V-Twin with muscle to burn and plenty of chrome. It’s as easy on the eyes as it is easy to ride. Another winner in the legendary Yamaha Star series.

Fuel Injected knockout.

The Yamaha 2010 Road Star is one of the biggest, baddest air cooled V-Twins in the business. It looks good, due mostly to the classic appeal of that hardtail-looking streel frame and all the classic looking hardware that goes with it. The 2010 Road Star S gets chrome accents to the front end including chrome switchgear, front brake master cylinder, front fork and levers.

Though it’s available in a metallic black lacquer – this Star is sure to light up the road with its radiant good looks and brilliant chrome.
Gleaming chrome, a retro seat and loads of torquey muscle will have you itching to ride. Swing a leg over, fire up the massive fuel injected V-twin engine, and then settle in for a nice long ride.

A culmination of all the knowledge we have gained since the introduction of the Star series. The stunningly beautiful Roadliner S is more than just a pretty face, it is an incredible cruising experience. Discover for yourself how the 1854cc V-Twin power, fuel injection, aluminum frame and swingarm, are all skillfully crafted to provide an incredible feeling of sensual performance and excitement.

The 2010 Yamaha Road Star Silverado is legendary for its styling and strength. It’s designed with casual touring comfort in mind, including a plush seat, full-sized floorboards, and soft leather saddlebags.

Pack your bags.

Fill up the 4.7 gallon fuel tank, plant your feet on the floating floorboards and let that big 102-cubic inch fuel-injected V-Twin have its head. Medium size adjustable windshield. Color matched hard sidebags. Touring saddle and passenger seat with backrest. You are ready to go.

This is a special machine. One that blends classic styling with a deep rooted character and personality.

A massive fuel injected 1,670cc V-twin delivers impressive torque and the kind of cruising performance you only get from a Yamaha. And with wide, rubber-mounted handlebars, a touring seat geared to all-day riding, and roomy soft saddlebags, you’re ready for the long-haul. Pure power. Uncompromised comfort. And it’s dangerously close to being too damn beautiful to ride…almost. Simply legendary.
